In 1990, Richard Karno founded Groundwork Coffee Company in Los Angeles, CA. Groundwork became the largest 100% organic coffee roaster in Southern CA. Before Richard sold Groundwork in 2012, the company operated 7 retail coffeehouses, and provided wholesale coffee to more than 500 accounts.

Always the innovator, in 2012 Richard Karno, having a non-compete clause in the state of California, decided to start a new coffee business in Nevada specializing in the first nitro-infused RTD cold brew in the USA. Tessa Karno served as Operations Manager for Gourmet Coffee Warehouse which then became Lucky Jack, LLC in December 2015. Lucky Jack LLC sold coffee products nationwide including private label nitrocold-brew RTD to all 500+ Trader Joes store locations.

In 2017, the Karnos relocated to beautiful Whidbey Island where Richard worked to perfect his flash-brew extraction process. The Karnos are very passionate about sustainability so in 2023 Tessa convinced her husband to come out of retirement to sell his organic coffee concentrate as an elegant solution to the need for an easy, single serving coffee that doesn’t create massive amount of waste on the planet like coffee pods do.
